Country: Germany
Duration:
03:00 hours
Description
Much more than just a sightseeing tour! This historical tour (in English) combines stunning Alpine scenery with fascinating WWII history.
Discover the reasons behind how and why the National Socialist party had the impressive Eagle's Nest built at 6,017ft atop the peak of the Kehlstein mountain.
On this tour we will take the winding mountain road to the Eagle's Nest, which was made famous by the 2001 HBO adaptation Band of Brothers®. This journey weaving along the steep, serpentine route is a captivating experience in itself.
You'll meet your accredited historical guide at the Eagle's Nest bus departure point (Salzbergstrasse 45, 83471, Berchtesgaden, Germany).
Your guide will begin with an explanation of the Obersalzberg; an area that comprised a sprawling compound during the National Socialist regime, learning about why the mountainside was so decisive, and how and why it became so important to Hitler during the Third Reich.
Next will be the journey up - with no waiting around in long lines - our tours all include "skip the line". You'll travel together with your guide in one of the specially designed mountain buses driving up the private road to the Eagle's Nest. You will be shown around the historic building paying particular attention to the many original features that still remain, including the famous brass elevator, and learning the details of the impressive construction of Hitler's mountaintop masterpiece.
The tour will include ample opportunities to take photos, ask any questions you may have, and also some free time to explore the Eagle's Nest independently. Not forgetting that the Eagle's Nest is today also a restaurant, you'll also have a chance to grab a quick bite to eat or enjoy a Bavarian beer.
The tour includes ca. 1 hour of free time to yourselves, after the guide has finished with all of the historical information. However this is flexible and can be extended (at no additional cost) if you'd like to spend longer up at the Eagle's Nest, perhaps to enjoy a leisurely lunch, or to take a short hike around up at the peak of the Kehlstein mountain. Simply speak to your guide on the day of the tour and they will be able to make the necessary amendment to your ticket.
Please note, this tour starts and ends in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Not in Salzburg or Munich.
The tour guide will be located at the top of the stairs & ramp at the Eagle’s Nest bus departure location for you to check in for the tour when you arrive.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We recommend all guests dress accordingly for local weather conditions and bear in mind we will be travelling to the peak of a mountain. Weather can be changeable and can often change very quickly and so it would be best to bring along a light jacket. During the free time up at the Eagle’s Nest, guests have the opportunity to walk along a hiking trail behind the building, along a stoney path, with concrete steps. We would recommend wearing comfortable, sensible walking shoes for this.
The tour begins at the Eagle’s Nest bus departure location, on the Obersalzberg mountain:
