"Cologne 1945" is an approx. 45-minute immersive experience consisting of an introduction, film, and virtual reality ride that lets you experience the destruction, everyday life, and hope in post-war Cologne in an impressive way.
With the TIMERIDE special "Cologne 1945," you'll embark on an impressive journey into one of the most formative phases of Cologne's history.
The approximately 45-minute experience begins with a personal introduction that gives you a historical overview of the events and prepares you for what's to come.
In the subsequent movie, you'll experience the bombings of Cologne and everyday life in 1945 up close.
Then you'll dive into the middle of the destroyed Cologne with the help of the latest virtual reality technology. During the VR ride from Neumarkt via the cathedral to Heumarkt, you'll encounter people caught between hope and deprivation: at food distributions, doing the first clean-up work, or desperately searching for their homes. Time and again, flashbacks will take you back to the undestroyed Cologne of the pre-war period, creating a particularly intense before-and-after effect. The emotional climax is the finale, in which the Cologne of the present slowly rises from the ruins – a moving symbol of new beginnings, perseverance, and confidence.
