Bad Ischl: Jainzen summit crossing in Sisi's footsteps

Directly from the imperial city up the mountain: This guided hiking tour takes you to the Jainzen, a real favorite mountain of the people of Ischl. For many locals, it is the perfect training mountain for a quick lap before or after work – for us, it becomes the destination of our scenic summit crossing.

We will meet in the morning at the bus terminal in the center of Bad Ischl. From here, we'll set off on foot and first follow in the footsteps of Empress Elisabeth. Sisi loved exercise and long hikes in the area around her summer residence – and the Jainzen is also part of the mountains directly surrounding the Imperial City.
After a short time, we leave the streets behind and enter the forest. Now the more strenuous part of our tour begins. Step by step, we gain altitude and climb along beautiful forest paths towards the summit.
The roughly 350 meters of altitude gain are clearly noticeable, but that's exactly what makes this tour so appealing: leisurely hiking meets an athletic challenge.
Once at the top, it's time to take a deep breath and enjoy. The view opens up down to Bad Ischl and out into the mountains of the Salzkammergut. When visibility is good, you can even see the mighty Dachstein in the distance.
After a short rest on the summit, you will not simply return along the same path. We cross the Jainzen and follow its elongated, wooded mountain ridge. The descent finally takes us back down to Bad Ischl and to our starting point.
After about three hours, we are back in the middle of the imperial city – with a summit crossing in our legs and a whole new view of Bad Ischl.

Who is this hike suitable for?
The tour is suitable for active guests with a good basic level of fitness and surefootedness. No special previous alpine experience is required, but you should be able to move safely on forest and mountain trails and enjoy a steep climb.

Please bring along:
Sturdy hiking boots or trekking shoes with good grip
Clothing appropriate for the weather
Plenty of water
Small snack for the summit break
Sun and rain protection

The hike takes place outdoors and on forest and mountain trails that are sometimes uneven. The actual walking time may vary slightly depending on the group and conditions.
If weather or trail conditions are unsuitable, the route may be adjusted for safety reasons.
