Description

Be transported to a world of magic in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, and visit Ludwig II's fairytale castle, the Neuschwanstein Palace, on a private day trip from Munich with hotel transfers included.
This 8-hour tour with a vehicle transports you through the rolling hills of the Bavarian countryside and into the very Alps themselves to visit Neuschwanstein – the fairytale castle of king Ludwig II of Bavaria.
You will be met by your guide at your hotel in Munich, or a prearranged meeting point, and be driven out of the city through idyllic, undulating farmlands and into the German Alps. Be sure to have your camera at the ready – the views on this roughly two hour drive are spectacular.
Upon arrival in Hohenschwangau – the small town beneath Neuschwanstein Castle – you will be given plenty of time to explore the charming shops, the serene Alpsee lake, and the grounds around the smaller Hohenschwangau Castle.
It’s then time to make the easy climb up towards Neuschwanstein. This takes roughly 45 minutes. On the way up your guide will talk you through the history of the castle and tell the story of the man behind the fairytale – King Ludwig II of Bavaria. You will learn about his cloistered childhood, eccentricity, myriad architectural follies, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death in 1886. There will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the stunning views on the way up. For those with mobility problems, the shuttle bus will be used to reach the castle.
Before entering Neuschwanstein, you will first make your way to the Marienbrücke. Suspended over a ravine, this suspension bridge affords breathtaking views of both the palace and the surrounding countryside. Next you will be taken on a 20-30 minute tour of the palace’s lavish, myth-inspired interior. When you come out there will be time for souvenir shopping and a break before we head back down to Hohenschwangau.
You will then be driven back to Munich. Your guide will accompany you back to your hotel or to a prearranged drop-off point of your choosing.

Please note: Only employees of Neuschwanstein are permitted to give tours inside the castle. For the duration of your visit to the palace interior you will be given an audio guide and taken round by one of the on-site guides.
