Description

Guided tour on the history and use of the historic rock-cut cellars over the last 700 years
Guided tour of the history and use of the historic rock-cut cellars over the last 700 years Over many centuries, the citizens of Nuremberg dug vaults and passages into the bright red sandstone beneath their city. In 1380, the extensive rock-cut cellar complex was mentioned in a document for the first time. Over the years, the cellars were mainly used for maturing and storing beer – primarily the red Nuremberg city beer. Today, the Altstadthof microbrewery uses a small part of the branched, labyrinthine cellar system again for maturing and storing specialty beers and beer brandies.
The guided tours naturally include a visit to the brewery and the whisky distillery. The specialities, above all the original Nuremberg red beer, can then be tasted in the tasting boutique, in the brewery tavern, in the restaurant or in the brewery's cellar bar, the Schmelztiegel. Come and visit us, it's well worth it!
