Description

Admire the most beautiful corners of Nuremberg from above and below. Hear exciting stories over the course of 120 minutes.
On this appealing combined tour, we supplement our tour of the Historic Rock Corridors with a one-hour walking tour of the Old Town. Here, you will first get to know the most important landmarks and figures of Nuremberg, as well as the history and development of the city. The city's impressive ring of walls is just as much a part of our tour as the imposing Nuremberg Castle, the towering Sebaldus Church, the historic City Hall, and the vibrant Hauptmarkt with the Frauenkirche and the beautiful fountain. And, of course, we will also encounter Albrecht Dürer, arguably the city's most famous son. He also shows us the way into the city's underground world. Right next to his monument, we will descend into the Historic Rock Corridors beneath the Sebalder Altstadt.

These extensive cellar systems, often spanning several stories, were originally used to brew and store the original Nuremberg red beer. This labyrinth was first documented on November 11, 1380, when the city council made it compulsory to maintain cellars. With the introduction of refrigeration in the 19th century, they ultimately lost their importance for beer storage.

However, many citizens found shelter here during the heavy air raids of World War II. Nowadays, the cellars are used to store the beer and whiskey specialties produced by the Altstadthof house brewery. As the final stop on our combined tour, “Old Town Walking Tour and Rock Passage,” you can visit both the brewery and the whisky store right next door.
