Join an authentic hands-on Karelian pasty (karjalanpiirakka) baking experience set in the timeless surroundings of Knehtilä — a farm rooted in tradition, sustainability, and an uncompromising love of real ingredients.
Learn to make karjalanpiirakka from scratch, guided step by step through the full process: from kneading the rye dough to shaping the iconic crimped edges and preparing the classic rice porridge filling. Leave with a skill that has been passed down through Finnish households for centuries — and a batch of pasties you made yourself.
Every ingredient you work with comes from Knehtilä's own fields or from trusted neighboring local farms. The rye, the dairy, the eggs — all authentic, traceable, and seasonal. This isn't a demonstration kitchen; it's a real working organic farm, and the food reflects that honestly.

The workshop is conducted in a relaxed, informal style true to Finnish farm hospitality. Coffee and nice chats served afterwards :)
The meeting point is in our main building in the Knehtilä Farm. Note, it takes about 55 minutes to drive from Helsinki city center.

When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
