Day 1: Arrival in Accra
Arrive at the airport and get picked up. Depending on your arrival time, head to your hotel or take a tour of Accra if you arrive early enough in the morning.
Day 2: Shai Hills Resource Reserve
Transfer to Akosombo and stop at Shai Hills. Explore the Shai Hills Resource Reserve, covered with grassland and low dry forest vegetation. Discover nearly 400 plant species spread across five separate hills. Climb Mongo Hills and see the animals in the park, including antelopes, bats, baboons, cats, duiker, kobs, green monkeys, monitor lizards, African pythons, royal pythons, and zebras.
Learn that the zebras are not native to Ghana and were imported from South Africa. Guides employed at the reserve reported (in September 2024) that five zebras had been born to date in the park, and some of those now live in Ghanaian zoos during the dry season. Tour the Shai Hills Museum.
Day 3: Akwamufie Mountain and Volta River
Hike up Akwamufie Mountain and enjoy a boat ride on the Volta River. Return to Accra or stay longer if you have more days.
