Description

Get to experience one of the most plied slave routes by the Tans-Atlantic Slave Traders. Understand the nature of the trade from the middle market points to the slave castles dotted along the coast.
Ghana was at the centre of the infamous Trans-Atlantic slave trade with captured Africans taken on an arduous and lengthy journey all the way to the coast from the north. Along the paths were markets, bathing points and cells and this tour seeks to unravel the issues encountered on the way.

This tour will take us first to the Assin Manso Slave River site where enslaved Africans had their last bath in African waters before being held up at the slave dungeons along the coast in wait for shipment. The site has also become the burial ground for two slaves from the USA and Jamaica who were brought back to their ancestral home through the Door of no Return at the Cape Coast Castle. A third tomb here contains several bones of enslaved people from Barbados returned in recent time.

We will end the tour with a tour of the Cape Coast Castle built by the British in 1665. Take a guided tour here delving deeper into the heinous treatment meted out to the enslaved.

We will return to Accra after the tours and you will be dropped off at your preferred hotel.
