Begin your cultural journey with a friendly welcome from your local host, who will accompany you throughout the day and share insights, stories, and traditions of West Crete. Travel through the countryside toward your first stop in the charming village of Fodele, known as the birthplace of El Greco. Enjoy a short orientation walk and learn about the village’s artistic heritage before continuing to Arkadi Monastery.
Upon arrival, your host will introduce the powerful history of the 16th-century Arkadi Monastery and its role in the Cretan resistance. Then, enjoy time to explore the church, courtyards, and museum while absorbing the atmosphere of this UNESCO-recognized landmark.
Next, continue to Rethymno, one of Crete’s most beautiful coastal towns. Follow your host on a gentle walk through the Venetian streets, uncovering hidden spots, local legends, and architectural gems. Take some free time for browsing, gelato, or a visit to the Fortezza Fortress.
Afterward, journey inland to the village of Armenoi for a delicious Cretan lunch in a family-run taverna (optional). Taste dishes made with local ingredients such as salads, graviera cheese, slow-cooked meats, seasonal vegetables, and homemade desserts.
The experience continues in Anogeia, a mountain village famous for its proud traditions, weaving workshops, and musical heritage. Your host will introduce you to local customs and daily life before you enjoy a sweet treat—galaktoboureko, kadaifi, or homemade ice cream, depending on the season.
At the end of this immersive cultural day, relax on the drive back to your accommodation.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
