Description

Orchha is famous for its temples & palaces. Next visit the historical town of Jhansi that is synonymous with the valour of its Queen who fought fearlessly against the British.
Visit a series of temples at the Orchha Fortress and Jhansi Fort on this day trip from Khajuraho. See a variety of stunning architecture, carvings and murals at these sites.

Get picked up from your chosen location in Khajuraho and begin your journey to the Orchha Fort Complex.

Your first stop will be at Jehangir Mahal, which was built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in the 17th Century. Admire its strong lines counterbalanced by delicate chhatris and trellis work.

Next, visit the Raja Mahal, built by Madhukar Shah, the deeply religious predecessor of Bir Singh Ju Deo. Be amazed as the plain exteriors, crowned by chhatris, give way to interiors with boldly colorful murals featuring a variety of religious themes.

Afterward, go to the Rai Praveen Mahal, built for the poet and musician Rai Praveen. Walk into this structure, surrounded by the beautiful landscaped gardens of Anand Mahal. See its skillfully carved niches, which allow light into the building.

Your next visit will be to Ram Raja Temple. Find out about the charming legend attached to this palace-turned-temple as you discover its soaring spires and palatial architecture.

Follow the flagstone path to your next stop at Laxmi Narayana Temple. Contemplate this structure's curious synthesis of fort and temple characteristics. Visit the interiors, which contain some of the complex's most stunning murals.

Finally, make your way to Phool Bagh, which is laid out as a formal garden. Marvel at the central row of fountains, which culminates in an eight-pillared palace pavilion. Descend into subterranean structure below, which was the cool summer retreat of the Orchha kings.
Next drive to Jhansi.

A 30-minute drive from Orchha, Jhansi is located in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was the site of India’s first war of independence in 1857 that was fought by its brave Queen, Rani Laxmi Bai. Visit the Jhansi Fort and the Palace of Rani Laxmi Bai that has now been converted into a museum.
