Start your journey at 3:00 AM with a drive from Yogyakarta to the viewing area. Begin your hike up Turgo Hill, one of the best spots to see the glowing lava and Mount Merapi. It takes around 40–50 minutes to reach the top from the parking area, following a path of about 1,740 steps surrounded by cool and refreshing nature.
At the top, witness the glowing lava before sunrise and enjoy the panoramic view of Yogyakarta from above. The soft rumble of Merapi’s activity can sometimes be heard, while monkeys and birds are often spotted around the area, adding to the beauty of the experience.
