Description
Watch the sun set over the Mediterranean from Old Jaffa's hilltop park. Hear the legends of Andromeda and Jonah as the old city lights up around you on this evening walking tour.
Old Jaffa changes at the end of the day. The tour buses leave, the stone turns gold, and the alleys empty out. This walk is built around that hour.
We meet outside the Abulafia bakery on Yefet Street, where the evening queue is local rather than touristic, and walk into the old city as the light starts to go. Past the Clock Tower and the Mahmoudiya Mosque, the call to prayer often carries over the rooftops at this hour — a sound the daytime crowds usually drown out.
Jaffa is a city of stories, and stories work better at this hour. From the hilltop of Abrasha Park we watch the sun go down over the Mediterranean, looking out at the rocks where Greek myth chained Andromeda and the harbour from which tradition sends Jonah out to sea. I will tell you these stories, and I will tell you clearly which parts are tradition, which are legend, and where the archaeology actually stands. That distinction matters more, not less, when the atmosphere is doing half the work.
We pass St. Peter's Church, its façade lit from below at this hour, and Kedumim Square, where excavations lie beneath the paving stones. Then we walk down to the port as the lights come on across the bay — the working harbour that sent traders, sailors and pilgrims inland toward Jerusalem for centuries.
Please note: this is an evening walk. The Jaffa Archaeological Museum, the interior of St. Peter's Church and the artists' studios are closed at this hour. If you want to go inside them, my daytime Hidden Jaffa tour covers exactly that. This tour is about the light, the sea and the stories.
Bring a camera — the golden hour from Abrasha Park is the best view in the city.
Start times follow the sunset and change with the season. I am a licensed guide and I work in English and Russian.
