See one of the most important collections of art in the world at the Vatican Museums, which comprise more than 1,200 rooms. Highlights include the Rooms of Raphael, the Sistine Chapel and the ancient Roman and Greek pieces in the Belvedere Courtyard.

The Sistine Chapel is located at the far end of the galleries and your guide will ensure that you get there quickly, while seeing the most important masterpieces along the way.

From the Sistine Chapel, you’ll have direct access to St. Peter's Basilica, a privilege available on official guided tours only. (Covid-19 restrictions may affect this; please see the Know before you go section for more details.) Your guide will also lead you to the underground level, a rarely seen area of the Vatican where the tombs of the former popes are located.

You’ll then head up into the main area of St. Peter's Basilica, the largest basilica in the world. On this part of the tour see Michelangelo’s Pietà and the famous dome he designed for the Basilica. Note the massive bronze baldacchino or canopy by Bernini, Raphael’s Transfiguration and other monuments of artistic importance.

Outside the magnificent Basilica your guide will tell you about the history of the Vatican State, the Swiss Guard and how St. Peter's Square was designed.
