Description
Embark on a day trip to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Experience the iconic Tateyama Snow Wall, travel through the Japan Alps, and admire the Kurobe Dam.
Begin your journey at Tateyama Station and travel through Bijodaira, Murodo, Daikanbo, Kurobedaira, and finally the Kurobe Dam before reaching Ogizawa. With an elevation difference of nearly 2,000 meters and a highest point of 2,450 meters at Murodo, experience the dramatic transition from lowland landscapes to alpine wilderness in a single day.
In spring, walk through the legendary Yuki-no-Otani Snow Corridor, where towering snow walls reach up to 20 meters high. As the snow melts, fresh greenery emerges at lower elevations, creating a rare and photogenic spring-meets-winter landscape.
In summer, Murodo transforms into a lush alpine plateau filled with wetlands, wildflowers, and refreshing mountain air. Enjoy scenic walks around Mikurigaike Pond, where the crystal-clear water reflects the surrounding peaks of the Northern Alps.
In autumn, witness vibrant foliage covering the mountains of the Tateyama Kurobe area. From valleys to peaks, layers of red, orange, and yellow create a dramatic alpine panorama. The areas around Daikanbo and Kurobedaira are especially popular for viewing fall colors from ropeways and observation decks overlooking colorful valleys and alpine lakes.
Before the route closes for winter, fresh snowfall begins to cover the high mountains while late autumn colors remain below. This creates a rare and beautiful contrast of snow-capped peaks and autumn scenery. With fewer visitors, it’s a perfect time for travelers seeking peaceful alpine views and photography opportunities.
