This one-day tour takes you to Tokoname, a historic pottery town. Stroll along the scenic pottery path, see hundreds of lucky cat statues, and enjoy the charm of traditional ceramic culture.
Embark on a memorable one-day journey from Nagoya to Tokoname, a historic pottery town celebrated for its centuries-old ceramic traditions.
This tour is ideal for those who want to discover authentic Japanese craftsmanship, explore atmospheric streets, and experience the cultural spirit of a living pottery town.

We begin at Nagoya Station and head to Tokoname, only a short ride away but offering a world rich in history and artistry.
Our first destination is the INAX Live Museum, a unique complex dedicated to the world of ceramics. Here, you can learn how tiles were made, explore fascinating exhibits, and even try your hand at pottery through hands-on workshops. It is more than just a museum—it is a place where ceramic culture comes alive.

Next, we stop at Tokonyan, the giant beckoning cat that welcomes visitors to the town. Tokoname is famous for producing thousands of maneki-neko (lucky cats), and as you walk through the town you will encounter countless statues with playful and varied expressions. It is a delightful spot for photos and a fun introduction to Tokoname’s character.

We then continue along the Tokoname Pottery Footpath, the highlight of the town. This scenic trail winds past old kilns, pottery walls, and artisan shops, with everyday ceramic objects embedded into the streetscape.
As you stroll through narrow lanes, you will discover open-air art installations and feel the blend of history and creativity that makes Tokoname unique. The footpath is both a cultural journey and a photographer’s dream.

Our final stop is the Takita Family Residence, once the home of a prosperous shipping agent in the Edo period. This beautifully preserved merchant house showcases traditional Japanese architecture and the lifestyle of a wealthy coastal family.
Walking through its tatami rooms and wooden interiors, you step back in time and gain a deeper understanding of Tokoname’s past beyond pottery.

After a full day of discovery, we return to Nagoya. By the end of the tour, you will have experienced Tokoname’s artistry, history, and timeless charm.

This trip is a perfect blend of cultural learning, hands-on fun, and scenic exploration—an ideal escape for travellers who wish to go beyond the ordinary and connect with Japan’s living traditions.
