October 31st – The Pantheon Experience
Join us for an unforgettable journey into one of Mexico’s most meaningful cultural celebrations. Immerse yourself in the spirit of the Day of the Dead and witness a heartfelt ceremony where families welcome the souls of their ancestors back from the afterlife.
Admire the beautifully decorated altars adorned with vibrant yellow marigolds, traditional “pan de muerto,” incense, sugar skulls, candles, and offerings of favorite foods, drinks, and music.
Visit the town’s main cemetery, the heart of the celebration, where tombs are surrounded by the scent of copal, the sound of live music, and the glow of candles. Feel the emotion and energy of the night as you join locals in honoring their loved ones and dancing alongside community members in traditional costumes — a truly unforgettable cultural encounter.
November 1st – La Muerteada in San Agustín Etla
On the following night, experience La Muerteada, one of Oaxaca’s most unique and vibrant Day of the Dead traditions. The town of San Agustín Etla, about 40 minutes from Oaxaca City, transforms into a spectacular stage where death is celebrated with laughter, color, and joy.
Starting at midnight, the streets come alive with wind band music, dancing, and parades of locals dressed in elaborate costumes representing death. The famous mirror and bell costumes are true works of art — heavy, intricate, and requiring great skill and endurance to dance in.
La Muerteada is more than a festivity; it’s a celebration of life, a tribute to those who have passed, and a living expression of Oaxacan culture and tradition.
