Description
Explore Monte Albán, taste 5 award-winning mezcals in our self-sustaining palenque, and visit live Alebrijes and Black Clay workshops.
This isn't just another tour around Oaxaca. It's a full-day immersion in living Zapotec culture, designed by those who grew up among these mountains, these agaves, and these traditions.
Your day starts with a direct pick-up from your accommodation. From there, we'll head up to Monte Albán, the ancient Zapotec capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For two hours, explore the ceremonial plazas, pyramids, and the astronomical observatory, revealing stories you won't find in any book.
Then we'll head down to the mezcal heart of Oaxaca: Palenque Capotlán, our own 100% self-sustainable distillery. Here, you don't just watch from afar: you'll walk among the earth ovens where the agave piñas are cooked, see the grinding with a stone tahona, and join our master mezcal maker in a guided tasting of 5 award-winning artisanal mezcals. You'll learn to distinguish an espadín from a tobalá with your own senses.
The route continues to San Antonio Arrazola, where you'll enter the workshop of a master carver and see how a piece of copal wood becomes an alebrije full of color and symbolism. Then we'll visit San Bartolo Coyotepec, the world's cradle of black mud, where a craftsman will show you the ancient polishing and firing technique that produces that unmistakable dark sheen.
Between stops, you'll enjoy a buffet of traditional Oaxacan food: mole, tlayudas, tasajo, and more flavors that you'll only understand when you try them (not included in the tour price).
All with safe transport, a small group (maximum 13 people), and the backing of 13 years of experience and certification from the National Tourism Registry. Because getting to know Oaxaca also means taking care of it.
