Description
Explore Oaxaca's Tule Tree, Zapotec weaving in Teotitlán, Mitla's mosaics, Hierve el Agua's pools & artisanal mezcal. All fees, eco-kit, transport & insurance included. Pet-friendly.
This is the classic Oaxaca Valley route — but done right. No surprise fees, no tourist-trap shopping stops, and an eco-conscious approach that respects the communities and landscapes you'll visit. Capotlán Tours has refined this experience over 13 years to offer a seamless, all-inclusive day that lets you focus on what matters: culture, nature, and authentic Oaxacan traditions.
Your day begins with a comfortable hotel pickup. First stop: the legendary Tule Tree in Santa María del Tule — a Montezuma cypress over 2,000 years old with a trunk circumference exceeding 40 meters, making it one of the largest living organisms on Earth. Your bilingual guide reveals the hidden figures locals see in its bark.
Next, you'll visit a traditional Zapotec weaving workshop in Teotitlán del Valle, where artisans demonstrate centuries-old techniques using natural dyes extracted from cochineal insects, indigo, and pomegranate. This is not a shopping stop — it's a cultural immersion into a living craft. If you choose to support the artisans with a purchase, that's entirely up to you.
Continue to Mitla, the most important Zapotec spiritual center after Monte Albán. Visit the unique geometric mosaic fretwork — found nowhere else in Mesoamerica — and the site's role as a gateway between the world of the living and the dead.
The natural highlight awaits at Hierve el Agua: one of only two petrified waterfall formations on Earth. Hike to the Cascada Grande viewpoint for sweeping views of the Sierra Mixe, then cool off in the spring-fed mineral infinity pools. Community guides assist within the protected area.
Your day concludes at a family-run mezcal distillery on the return route, where you'll taste artisanal mezcal and learn the traditional production process from agave to spirit.
Entrance fees to Tule, Mitla and Hierve el Agua are not included in the tour price. Your guide will clearly indicate the ticket booths and current costs so you can pay directly to each site. This keeps your base tour price flexible and transparent, especially on days with local discounts (such as free admission for Mexican nationals on Sundays in Mitla).
