Description
Discover hidden temples and vibrant communities on a guided bike tour in Siem Reap. Cycle through rice paddies and lush rainforests, and enjoy a traditional Khmer lunch.
Begin your adventure with a pickup from your hotel and head to the starting point. Get fitted for your bike and set off through the village. Ride along the historic Khmer Rouge dam, where sweeping panoramic views of emerald rice fields stretch endlessly. Marvel at the graceful palm trees standing in perfect rows, painting a timeless Cambodian landscape.
Pause at a welcoming local home to watch artisans skillfully weave rattan baskets by hand. Conclude with a special school visit, warmly hosted by the respected dean, offering a glimpse into community life.
Enjoy a 10 km ride through peaceful countryside communities to explore the untouched and unique temple of Choav Sayvibol. Along the way, pass farmer houses and be greeted warmly by local children with cheerful “hello” and “bye.” Arrive at the ruins of Prasat Choav Sayvibol, a temple gracefully overtaken by the beauty of the surrounding community.
Ride 10 km on paved roads to reach Phnom Bok Temple, known as the “Trilogy of the Mountain.” At the checkpoint, set aside your bike and embark on the scenic hike up the 205-meter hill. At the summit, your guide will share legends of the trinity gods of the mountain. The temple ruins here hold a haunting beauty, once serving as a royal cremation site symbolizing reincarnation in Hindu mythology, facing northeast—the direction of rebirth.
After descending, ride 4 km through Yashodharatataka Baray, pausing at a floating hut for a short break. After lunch, embark on a 6 km ride into the lost civilization forests of the Angkorian era. Beneath the jungle canopy, spot wildlife such as bees, frogs, monkeys, dragonflies, butterflies, squirrels, and more. Seasonal fungi sprout during the rainy season, adding to the forest’s mystery. Your guide may even point out playful freshwater otters along the river.
Continue to Jayatataka Baray for birdwatching. Depending on luck, you may see cranes, egrets, lesser whistling ducks, or even kingfishers. Follow a 1.5 km trail leading to a tree nursery farm, then onward to the moat and South Gate ruins of Preah Khan Temple.
After admiring the South Gate ruins, cycle 8 km to the charming village of Angkor Krauv, leading you to the hidden temple of Prasat Banteay Thom deep in the forest. Ride 4 km round trip from the rural village to the heart of the rice paddies. Hold your breath as you arrive at the temple’s crumbling walls. Deep inside, nature has reclaimed the ruins, eroding foundations and collapsing roofs. The three towers, weakened by vibrations and rainwater over centuries, stand as fragile yet powerful reminders of time’s passage. Fascinating storytelling from your guide will bring this forgotten temple to life.
Conclude your journey at Prasat Banteay Thom Temple. Your driver will transfer you back to your hotel, completing this unforgettable adventure.
