Description

Tour the Yuanwang-1, a retired space-tracking ship that supported 57 missions including the Shenzhou spacecraft. Walk the bridge, radar deck & helicopter pad at Jiangnan Shipyard.
Docked at the historic No. 2 slipway of Shanghai's Jiangnan Shipyard, the Yuanwang-1 is China's first domestically designed and built comprehensive space-tracking ship — a true titan of the nation's aerospace program. Launched in 1977 and commissioned in 1978, this 38-meter-deep vessel sailed at 20 knots with a staggering 100-day operational endurance, earning the nickname "Floating Science City."

Over its 32-year career, Yuanwang-1 embarked on 44 ocean expeditions, logging over 2,600 days at sea and covering 440,000 nautical miles. It supported 57 major scientific missions, including the tracking of Shenzhou spacecraft, long-range launch vehicles, and meteorological satellites. Its final mission monitored the Shenzhou-7 capsule and a Venezuelan communications satellite in 2008 before retiring as one of China's most decorated vessels.

Today, visitors can walk the original bridge and navigation deck, stand beneath the colossal radar antenna arrays that once tracked spacecraft across the ocean, explore the helicopter landing pad at the stern, and see real crew quarters preserved as they were during active service. The ship forms part of a three-in-one exhibition platform alongside the China Shipbuilding Pavilion and the historic Jiangnan Arsenal Translation Bureau — a landmark of industrial, maritime, and aerospace heritage on the Huangpu Riverfront.
