Day 1 Datong arrival & Old-Town taster
24 h airport/rail pick-up, settle into Datong boutique hotel. Stroll Nine-Dragon Screen, Shanhua Temple and sample Datong lamb ribs or wheat-noodle rolls (meals pay on site).
Day 2 UNESCO Yungang → Hanging Temple → Wutai Mountain
Fast-track into the 5th-century Yungang Grottoes, marvel at thousand-armed Bodhisattvas. Country lunch, then 45 min drive to the cliff-hugging Hanging Temple of Mt Hengshan. Late-afternoon transfer (3 h) to Wutai Valley; check-in and optional night walk to Xiantong Temple.
Day 3 Five-Peak Pilgrimage
Sunrise chanting at Tayuan’s White Stupa. 4WD shuttle to the five colourful peaks (North 3 058 m) for sweeping skyline views. Visit Nanchan & Foguang Temples—oldest timber halls on earth. Vegetarian monk lunch; descend to Taiyuan city, taste local beef-noodle soup, stay downtown.
Day 4 Stone Grottos & Great Wall Gate → Return
Morning at Yungang’s sister site—Tianlongshan Caves or the lesser-known Yuwang Caves (ticket included). Continue to Yanmen Pass for Ming-era Great Wall ramparts. Tour ends 17:00 with free drop-off to Taiyuan/Datong airport or rail (book outbound after 19:00).

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
