Description

From Walvis Bay, explore flamingos, pink salt lakes, Cape fur seals, desert wildlife, and the Moon Valley’s Welwitschia on a guided tour combining Namibia’s coast, desert, and history.
*Spot flamingos at Walvis Bay lagoon and the vibrant pink salt lakes
*Visit Pelican Point with its seal colony, seabirds, and lighthouse
*Explore Moon Valley and see the ancient Welwitschia mirabilis
*Pause at Goanikontes Oasis to discover lichens, desert life, and singing rocks
*Drive into the dunes for a panoramic desert viewpoint over the Atlantic

Begin your journey at the Walvis Bay promenade, where flamingos gather in the shallow lagoon and tint the shoreline with soft pink hues. Continue to the Walvis Bay Salt Works to view vast salt pans and the famous pink lakes, a striking natural spectacle created by microorganisms, algae and minerals.

From there, travel to Pelican Point, home to thousands of Cape fur seals, a historic lighthouse, and excellent birdwatching. Passing Donkey Bay — also known as Skeleton Bay — glimpse one of the world’s most legendary surf breaks.

Turning inland, pause at Dune 7, the tallest dune in the area, before entering the dramatic Moon Valley. Carved by ancient rivers, this rugged landscape contrasts sharply with the coast. Here you will also encounter the ancient Welwitschia mirabilis, a plant that can live for over a thousand years.

At Goanikontes Oasis, where vegetation flourishes in the desert, take time to enjoy snacks and drinks while exploring unique desert life. Discover lichens that spring to life with moisture, listen to the mysterious “singing rocks,” and learn about the region’s ecology.

The route then leads to Swakopmund, a coastal town rich in culture and history, where German colonial architecture and lively streets meet the Atlantic. A stop at The Mole provides an oceanfront perspective before the journey continues south.

On your return to Walvis Bay, venture into the dunes for an exhilarating drive to a high viewpoint. From here, enjoy sweeping views of the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean — a fitting finale to a day filled with contrasts of coast, desert, wildlife, and history.

Conclude back at your starting point in Walvis Bay, completing a full-day tour that captures the most diverse and picturesque landscapes of the Namib Desert.
