Description

Explore Budhanilkantha Temple from Kathmandu. Admire the giant reclining Vishnu statue, learn its history from a guide, and enjoy a smooth trip with convenient transport included.
Begin your journey with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Kathmandu. Travel to the Budhanilkantha Temple, located at the base of Shivapuri Hill, approximately 9 km north of central Kathmandu.

Upon arrival, admire the colossal black basalt stone statue of Lord Vishnu resting on a bed of 11 multi-headed snakes (nagas). Learn about the symbolism of the image, which depicts Vishnu in a state of yoga nidra (meditative sleep) in the cosmic ocean, a powerful symbol of creation and rest.

See the pond, fed by a natural underground spring that is also the source of the Budhanilkantha stream. If you visit during the Haribodhini Ekadashi festival (late October/early November), witness the temple come alive with a large fair (mela) celebrating the awakening of Lord Vishnu from his long sleep.
