Description

As the days get shorter, the coziness of winter increases. On this 'Oslo By Heart' tour we’ll not only discover the heart of Oslo, but also some of Norway’s finest Christmas traditions.
Why choose this tour?
As an independent guide, I have created my own tours, driven by my passion for Oslo’s rich culture and history. After years of designing itineraries/scripts for other companies, I have created 'Oslo By Heart' tours to offer a more personal, authentic experience. Unlike the generic tours provided by companies that subcontract local guides, my tours are thoughtfully crafted and full of personal insights, ensuring a unique experience.

It says maximum 10 guests per tour, but my average tour group is small.

Who is this tour for?
* Solo Travellers
* Couples
* Groups of friends
* Photo takers
* If you want to see as much as possible in a short time
* Anyone who wants a unique, personal experience with a focus on culture, history, and architecture

Full tour description
We begin this tour close to the Norwegian National Opera House, one of my favourite highlights of the city. Our meeting point is the “Creature from Iddefjord” (Skapning fra Iddefjord) sculpture outside Deichman Bjørvika Library.

As we move along the waterfront you will learn fascinating details about the comprehensive urban development that has shaped the Bjørvika district, and which includes the Munch Museum, the ice covered Opera, the winter floating sauna landscape, and other buildings that might surprise you.

We will then make our way towards the Kvadraturen district. Here we will dive a little deeper into the history of the city and how it came to be known as Christiania for just over 300 years. We will learn more about traditional Norwegian Christmas food at Oslo's oldest restaurant. We will also head to the highest point of the Akershus Fortress grounds for stunning views over the Oslofjord. On a clear day, you will be able to spot the famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump.

We will then carry on towards the heart of Oslo, Karl Johan street, to discover how the city and country are governed, educated and entertained; the Norwegian Parliament, National Theatre and Royal Palace among others. We will stroll along the Christmas market where you will learn more about Norwegian Christmas traditions. If you like shopping, take note as you might want to return here later.

During the final part of the tour we will head towards Oslo’s magnificent City Hall and finally the Aker Brygge district, where I will give you some great tips for visiting cozy restaurants, Oslo's best Christmas menus, and further places of interest during the darker months.

If you choose the Vigeland Park add-on, we will board the tram at Aker Brygge to visit the world's largest sculpture park envisioned and created by a single artist. The extended tour will conclude after the park visit.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
If you book the extra trip to Vigeland Park, it can be muddy if it has been raining, so bring appropriate footwear. In the winter the park is sometimes too icy for a comfortable visit. I can possibly give you spikes for your shoes, contact me in advance if you are unsure of the conditions.
Please check in advance if you want to bring a pet.
Our meeting point is the “Creature from Iddefjord” sculpture ("Skapning fra Iddefjord") outside the main entrance to Deichman Bjørvika Library. This is a quiet spot (and not used as the meeting point for any other tours), so I'm generally the only other person there, I will find you!
