Tromsø: Reindeer Feeding & Sami Culture Express

Come meet the reindeer herd, feed them by hand, and learn about Sami culture. In just 3 hours (transfers included), you'll get a real taste of Sami reindeer herding life!
After a 35-minute drive along the coast, we arrive at camp, where a large herd of reindeer will be waiting for you. You'll feed them by hand and get a go at traditional lasso-throwing.

Need to warm up? Head into our gamme (a traditional wooden building) for hot drinks and cookies — tea, coffee and hot chocolate are on offer the whole visit.

We'll end the day in the lavvu, gathered around the fire, listening to stories about Sami culture and life as a reindeer herder. Your guide will finish with a joik, a traditional Sami song.

Pick up

Pick up 9.40 (morning tour) / 13.10 (afternoon tour) at the bus terminal at Tromsø Havn Prostneset, (Samuel Arnesens gate 5, 9008, Tromsø - Google maps link) 
There are two entrances. One is by the buses and one is between the Terminal and the Clarion Edge. Our guides will be where the buses are ready to depart to camp. If you do go to the wrong entrances, walk through the terminal to the other entrance and you will find us there.

Please look out for our pick up guides who will be wearing blue 'Tromso Arctic Reindeer' jackets.
We want all our guests to enjoy the whole experience, so please arrive with time to spare so we can ensure a prompt departure of 10.00 / 13.30.


ITINERARY
- For guests booked on our morning tour, departure time is 10.00 (meeting time 9.40)
- For guests booked on our afternoon tour, departure time is 13.30 (meeting time 13.10)
- 30-35-minute bus drive to the reindeer camp
- Feeding of wild reindeer around the camp
- Guests can test lasso throwing (but not on real reindeer)
- Hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) around the fire inside a lavvu (traditional Sami hut)
- Storytelling of Sami culture
- A joik performance (traditional Sami folk song)
- 30-35 min bus ride back to Tromsø city centre
- Morning trip back in Tromsø at around 13.00
- Afternoon trip back in Tromsø at around 16.30

WHAT IS INCLUDED: Transfer, guiding, storytelling and joik, hot drinks and cookies

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Warm clothes (at least two layers), gloves and hat, good winter boots. Please check the local weather forecast when packing for your trip.

IF YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH A SMALL CHILD:
Please note that if you are traveling with a small child, the buses only have a few booster seats. If you require a baby seat, we recommend you to book a taxi with the proper seat. 

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
