Description
Taste 20+ varieties of honey - including rare wild forest and native stingless bee honey at Boquete's original, largest, and most celebrated honey tasting.
Boquete Bees & Butterflies launched the first honey tasting in Boquete over a decade ago, and it's grown into the most extensive in Panama. More than 20 distinct varieties, all guided, all with a story behind them.
The Tasting Experience
Your guide walks you through each honey one by one, talking through where it came from, what the bees were foraging, and why it looks, smells, and tastes the way it does. By the end, most people find they can't eat honey the same way again. The differences between a wildflower blend, a single-origin forest honey, and a stingless bee variety are striking once you know what you're looking for.
What You'll Taste
Honeys from wild forest trees native to the Chiriquí highlands, seasonal tropical flower varieties with their own distinct floral character, and Melipona, the rare medicinal honey produced by native stingless bees that bears almost no resemblance to anything sold in a supermarket. Factor in the altitude and microclimate that make Boquete unusual even within Panama, and you end up with a selection of 20+ varieties you won't find together anywhere else in the country.
What You'll Learn
How honey bees and native stingless bees differ in biology and behavior. How the surrounding forest and flowers directly shape a honey's flavor, color, and aroma. Why Melipona honey commands such a premium across the tropics and has been used medicinally for centuries. What sustainable beekeeping looks like in practice here in Chiriquí, and something most people have never thought about: how to tell raw honey from the processed kind.
Bonus: Science You Can See
A live demonstration hive lets you watch bees going about their work at close range, safely. Microscopes bring pollen grains and honeycomb cell structures into focus. Details that are easy to describe but much more memorable once you've actually seen them.
