Description
Embark on a challenging trek to the Laguna Churup in the Huascarán National Park. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Cordillera Blanca and Negra and see the Churup Glacier.
Begin your adventure with a trek to the stunning Churup Lagoon, located at 4,450 meters above sea level in the heart of the Huascarán National Park. Known for its intense turquoise color, the lagoon's hue changes with the position of the sun, creating a breathtaking natural spectacle.
Start your hike in the Pitec sector (3,860 meters above sea level) and make your way up a trail that combines natural paths, stone steps, and sections where you'll need to climb with ropes. As you ascend, take in the high-Andean flora, small streams, and rock formations that make the route even more exciting.
Along the way, stop at natural viewpoints to admire the city of Huaraz in the distance, the snow-capped peaks of the Callejón de Huaylas, and panoramic views of the Blanca and Negra mountain ranges. Keep an eye out for wild ducks and other Andean birds.
Upon reaching the lagoon, take a moment to soak in the beauty of the turquoise waters, surrounded by rocky formations and the imposing Churup peak (5,495 meters above sea level), which gives the lagoon its name.
