The White City of Arequipa invites us to discover its rich history and beauty in a fascinating tour. We begin at the Carmen Alto viewpoint, which offers a spectacular panoramic view of the agricultural terraces that define the local landscape. From this privileged point, we can observe the three imposing volcanoes that watch over the city: Misti, Chachani and Pichu-Picchu. We continue our journey to the picturesque neighborhood of Yanahuara, known for its Andalusian-style church and its viewpoint, both surrounded by elegant arches of sillar, volcanic stone characteristic of the city. Then, we enter the Santa Catalina Monastery, a unique place that was closed for almost 400 years.
This 16th century convent preserves a labyrinth of narrow streets, squares and gardens, transporting us back to colonial times. The next stop is the Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city, where we can admire the majestic Cathedral and the portals that surround the square, built with the same white stone that characterizes Arequipa. Finally, we visit the Church of the Company of Jesus, famous for its cloisters and the impressive Dome of San Ignacio, which stand out for their exquisite baroque architecture.
