Tamanique is one of the greenest and most biodiverse municipalities in La Libertad, and its waterfalls are Salvadoran nature's best-kept secret. This tour takes you beyond El Salvador's well-known beaches and into the mountainous heart of the Pacific coast, where freshwater rivers carve canyons and form dreamlike pools surrounded by giant ferns, vines and centuries-old trees.

The tour begins with pickup at your hotel in San Salvador, traveling by private transportation along the coastal highway to the trailhead. Once on the mountain, your local guide — who knows every stone and every species — will lead you along a dirt-and-rock trail that follows the river, crossing natural bridges and small freshwater streams. The hike in takes about 1.5 hours, passing three distinct levels of waterfalls, each with its own unique character and beauty.

The first waterfall, about 8 meters (26 ft) high, falls into a shaded pool perfect for cooling off. The second — the most impressive of the tour — drops more than 15 meters (49 ft) in a curtain of white water that creates a fine mist, perfect for photos. The third, more secret and harder to reach, rewards the effort with an almost untouched setting of wild beauty
