From Puerto Maldonado: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick Day Tour

Embark on a full-day tour from Puerto Maldonado to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. Cruise along the Tambopata River, spot wildlife, and enjoy panoramic views from a canopy observation tower.
Begin your adventure with pickup from your hotel, Puerto Maldonado Airport, Port of Capitanía, or another agreed meeting point in Puerto Maldonado, depending on your arrival arrangements. Travel by private vehicle for approximately one hour to the Filadelfia community before boarding a motorized boat and navigating the Tambopata River toward one of Peru's most remarkable wildlife areas.

Along the river, your guide will help identify birds and other wildlife while sharing insights about the Amazon ecosystem. If conditions allow, you may have opportunities to observe species such as capybaras, caimans, monkeys, or even larger wildlife from a respectful distance. Your guide can also point out the best viewpoints and assist you in capturing memorable photos of the surrounding rainforest and landscapes.

Arrive at the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, one of the largest clay licks in the Peruvian Amazon, where colorful macaws and parrots gather during the morning. Spend several hours observing this natural spectacle while enjoying breakfast in the field.

After the clay lick visit, continue exploring quieter sections of the Tambopata River in search of additional wildlife, including birds, turtles, tapirs, and other Amazonian species that may be active throughout the day.

Return to the lodge for lunch before taking a guided rainforest walk to a 45-meter (148-ft.) canopy observation tower. From this elevated viewpoint, enjoy panoramic views of the Amazon canopy while looking for toucans, parrots, monkeys, squirrels, and other wildlife among the treetops. Your guide will also help you find excellent photo locations to capture the rainforest from above.

At the end of the tour, return by boat and private vehicle to Puerto Maldonado, where you will be dropped off at your hotel, the airport, the Port of Capitanía, or another agreed location, according to your travel arrangements.
