Description

Explore the wonders of the Peruvian Amazon with our excursion to Sandoval Lake and Macaw Clay Lick. Immerse yourself in the biodiversity of Tambopata National Reserve.
Day 1: Arrival and Forest Walk

This adventure starts upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, where you embark on an outboard boat along the Madre de Dios River to the Lodge (approximately 1 ½ hours downstream). Upon arrival, you enjoy a delicious lunch prepared with organic ingredients and native flavors.

After lunch, you take a walk along the natural trails, exploring the primary and secondary forest, learning about its components, uses, and man-made transformations, as well as its significance for the world. This night walk provides you with the opportunity to observe the behavior of the Amazon's nocturnal flora and fauna. Returning to the Lodge, you indulge in a traditional dinner.

Day 2: Sandoval Lake and Night Caiman Safari

Today promises exciting adventures. After a nutritious breakfast, you gear up for a walk through the Tambopata National Reserve, leading us to Sandoval Lake. Here, you understand why Madre de Dios is known as Peru's biodiversity capital.

You learn about the Reserve's conservation efforts and explore the lake by canoe, home to endangered giant otters, blue and yellow macaws, and the impressive freshwater fish, "the Paiche." In the evening, you embark on a thrilling night safari on the Madre de Dios River, observing the ecosystem and nocturnal wildlife along the riverbanks. You end the day with a traditional dinner in the dining area.

Day 3: Breakfast and Journey to Upper Tambopata, Night Walk

After breakfast, you get ready for a trip to the Collpa de guacamayos "Chunchos" area. You begin with a 2-hour boat ride along the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado, followed by a 2-hour drive by van to the Filadelphia area on the upper Tambopata River. Finally, a 50-minute canoe ride takes you to the lodge.

Here, you enjoy the unique Amazonian fauna and surroundings, followed by a walk in the vicinity to spot local wildlife. If energy permits, the guide invites you to ascend to the platform for a panoramic view from above. You conclude the day with a nourishing dinner, as you need rest for an early start the next day.

Day 4: Collpa de Guacamayos Chunchos and Return to Puerto Maldonado

You get up early (4:20 am) to embark on an incredible boat journey to the region's largest guacamayo clay lick, "Chunchos," approximately 1 hour by boat. Along the way, you have the chance to spot species like capybaras (the world's largest rodents), tapirs, and even jaguars. Arriving at the guacamayo clay lick, you witness the natural spectacle where hundreds of parrots of various species gather to feed on clay. After this unique experience, you return to Puerto Maldonado via a combined land and river trip, concluding this journey in the city's main square or at the airport.
