Explore Tambopata, visit Collpa Chuncho at sunrise, and kayak along the river. Stay 2 nights in the rainforest and discover jungle wildlife with your guide.
Spend 3 days and 2 nights immersed in the Tambopata rainforest, staying at Hacienda Tambopata Lodge and exploring the jungle by road, boat, on foot, and by kayak. Discover the forest with a local guide, visit Collpa Chuncho at sunrise, explore native plants, and paddle along the Tambopata River.
Your experience begins in Puerto Maldonado, where you will be welcomed at the airport or bus terminal and taken to the Hacienda Tambopata office for registration. If you have large luggage, you can repack and leave unnecessary items behind before entering the rainforest.
Travel by road for approximately 2 hours to the Tambopata River. From there, board a boat and continue toward the lodge. As you leave Puerto Maldonado behind, the landscape gradually changes from roads and settlements to rainforest and river scenery.
Upon arrival, receive a welcome briefing, settle into your room, and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, join your guide for an introductory rainforest walk. Learn how to recognize plants, animal tracks, sounds, and other signs of jungle life while looking for birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and other species in their natural habitat.
Day 2 begins around 4:30 AM with a boat journey toward Collpa Chuncho. The approximately 1.5-hour ride takes you along the Tambopata River as the forest comes to life. Keep watch along the riverbanks for birds and other wildlife; sightings depend on natural conditions.
At Collpa Chuncho, settle into the observation area and watch parrots and macaws gather at the clay lick. Your guide will explain their behavior and why they consume mineral-rich clay. The activity varies naturally from day to day.
Return to the lodge for breakfast and time to rest. Later, explore the botanical garden with your guide and discover native fruit, timber, and medicinal plants and their traditional uses.
After lunch, experience the Tambopata River by kayak. Paddle quietly through the rainforest landscape and observe the riverbanks from the water while looking for birds, reptiles, and other wildlife.
After dinner, relax at the lodge or join an optional guided night walk, depending on weather and local conditions, to explore the rainforest after dark.
On Day 3, enjoy breakfast before beginning your return journey. Travel by boat back along the Tambopata River, continue by road to Puerto Maldonado, and transfer to the airport or bus terminal according to your departure plans.
This experience combines rainforest exploration, wildlife observation, local interpretation, river travel, and outdoor activities while giving you two nights surrounded by the Tambopata rainforest.
