Description

Hike green trails, canoe on the spectacular Sandoval Lake and meet fascinating wildlife, such as macaws and giant otters.
Day 1: Adventure in the heart of Lake Sandoval
Welcome to our office, where we will begin a 40-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River. Arriving at the Tambopata National Reserve, we will head to Sandoval Lake in just 5 minutes. You will enjoy a 3-kilometer hike (approximately 1 hour) to spot monkeys, snakes, tarantulas and tropical birds. At the end of the tour, a canoe will take you to our rustic cabins while you explore the shores of the lake, where you can observe tropical birds, herons, caimans and the majestic 2-meter giant otter, an icon of Madre de Dios. After a typical jungle lunch (juane) with seasonal drinks and a brief introduction to your room and lodge, we will board the canoe again to explore Sandoval Lake and have a close encounter with the wildlife. Relax as you enjoy a unique sunset over the lake, a tranquil place with few visitors. Join the caiman hunt and learn with our guides how to find the black caiman. At the end of the day, we will return to the cabins for dinner.

Day 2: Wildlife Encounter
At 5 a.m., we will head out in search of vibrant blue and yellow macaws and other species during the special parrot clay lick activity, a breathtaking spectacle of colorful flocks in the palm ecosystem. After breakfast, we will look for giant river otters and visit the 30-meter observation tower on Sandoval Lake. You can also try piranha fishing while continuing to explore the natural beauty of the lake. After a typical lunch, we will take a guided hike to learn about the ancient trees, some over 500 years old, and medicinal plants. If you wish, at the end of the day, we can take a night walk to observe spiders, tarantulas, frogs, nocturnal animals, night monkeys and snakes.
Day 3: Giant otter watching
At 5 a.m., we will set off again in search of the impressive 2-meter giant river otters at Sandoval Lake. You will experience the Amazonian sunrise and have the opportunity to capture breathtaking views of the Madre de Dios River. Afterwards, you will enjoy a last nutritious breakfast, prepared with organic ingredients from our pantry, before departure. The staff and your guide will bid you farewell, thanking you for visiting this wonderful part of the Amazon. You will travel back to Puerto Maldonado by motorized canoe and, depending on your departure time, you can relax and wait for your bus home or your next destination.
