Duration: 3 days

Description

Discover Lake Titicaca beyond a typical tour on a 3-day journey from Cusco. Live with a local family in Amantaní, visit the Uros floating islands, and uncover Taquile’s ancestral textile culture.
Begin your journey in Cusco with pickup from your accommodation in the historic center and transfer to the bus terminal to board the overnight tourist bus to Puno. Travel comfortably overnight toward the Andean highlands.

Upon arrival in Puno, the local team coordinates your transfer to enjoy an included early breakfast before preparing for the boat excursion. After breakfast, be transferred to Puno’s main pier to board a shared tourist boat.

The first stop is the Uros Floating Islands, where local residents explain how they build and maintain their artificial reed islands, their community organization, and their ancestral way of life. This visit offers insight into human adaptation to the lake environment.

Continue to Amantani Island, one of the most authentic communities of Lake Titicaca. Upon arrival, local families welcome you into their homes. Lunch is prepared with local products such as quinoa, native potatoes, and seasonal vegetables.

In the afternoon, enjoy a moderate hike to the Pachatata ceremonial center located at the highest point of the island. The ascent takes approximately 30 minutes and offers panoramic lake views and a unique Andean sunset. This hike is considered moderate due to altitude and slope.

The experience continues with a traditional dinner at the host family’s home and, optionally, a small cultural gathering where you may wear traditional clothing and share local music. Accommodation is rural, clean, and comfortable. Electricity is available during limited hours, allowing for a peaceful night under one of the clearest skies of the highlands.

The third day begins early with a family breakfast before sailing to Taquile Island. Upon arrival, a moderate 30-minute walk leads to the main square. The island is internationally recognized for its textile tradition, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. During the visit, you will learn about its unique social organization, where weaving plays an essential role in cultural identity.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant and includes soup, main dishes prepared with island ingredients, and a hot beverage. Finally, descend to the port to return by boat to Puno, concluding a complete experience that combines nature, living culture, and genuine community interaction on Lake Titicaca.
