Description
Sail through the Beagle Channel! See penguins on Martillo Island, sea lions, and the iconic Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. A must-see catamaran expedition with epic landscapes of the Andes in Ushuaia.
The Penguin Cruise to Martillo Island is one of the most classic and exciting experiences in Ushuaia. The journey begins at the Port of Ushuaia, from where we depart on a modern catamaran to sail through the waters of the legendary Beagle Channel.
Right at the start, you will have a vantage point of Ushuaia Bay and the southernmost city in the world, surrounded by mountains, forests, and glaciers. One of the best times to capture the classic Ushuaia landscape as seen from the sea.
During the route, we will sail near the Island of the Birds and the Island of the Sea Wolves, where you can observe different species of the marine fauna of Tierra del Fuego. These include sea lions, cormorants, albatrosses, seagulls and other birds that inhabit the region.
The journey continues to the iconic Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, one of Ushuaia's most photographed postcard images and popularly known as the “Lighthouse at the End of the World.”
The most eagerly awaited moment takes place on Martillo Island, the natural habitat of colonies of Magellanic penguins and, at certain times, Gentoo penguins. The boat approaches the shore so you can observe and photograph the animals in their natural environment.
Penguin observation is done from aboard the catamaran, with no drop-off on the island, to preserve the habitat and respect the animals' behavior.
During the trip, the guides share information about the history of the Beagle Channel, the islands, the fauna, and the ecosystem of the region.
An unforgettable experience for those who want to see the landscapes of Tierra del Fuego, sail through the Beagle Channel and observe the penguins of Martillo Island up close.
