The PR1 Hike (Pico Do Arieiro To Pico Ruivo To Achada Do Teixeira) Is The Number 1 Hike Of Madeira Island!

Our transfers are shared in a 9 seat minivan. When everyone has been picked-up in Funchal or Caniço, the driver will take the group to Pico Do Arieiro (the 3rd highest mountain on the island with 1810 meters of altitude) where the hike starts. We will arrive at Pico Do Arieiro half an hour before sunrise to be able to appreciate all the colors. After sunrise, you can start the hike!

The driver will explain all the information needed about the route and the timings. Everyone has the freedom to walk on their own or to join other people in the group! We give 4 and a half hours to complete the hike, which is plenty of time even for slow hikers.

You will hike from Pico Do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, the highest mountain in Madeira Island with 1862 meters of altitude. And then, to Achada Do Teixeira (the ending point of the hike). We will pick you there to bring you all back to your accommodation.

On this path, you will see the most breathtaking views because of the weather diversity along the hike. You will feel that you walk “above the clouds” and on the challenging path you will find a few tunnel walks and the famous “stairs to heaven”.

Duration: 4:30 hours (in total).
Difficulty: Medium-Hard.
Total distance: 11 km.
We do not recommend this hike for kids under 16 years old.
