Description

Discover the highlights of Romania on a 3-day tour from Bucharest. Visit royal castles, charming medieval cities, UNESCO heritage sites, and the spectacular Transfăgărășan Highway.
Day 1: Bucharest → Sinaia → Bran → Brașov (Overnight in Brașov)

Begin with a scenic drive through the Carpathian Mountains toward Sinaia, home to the stunning Castelul Peleș. Built as the summer residence of Romania’s royal family, Peleș is considered one of Europe’s most beautiful Neo-Renaissance castles, featuring lavish interiors and impressive craftsmanship.

Continue to the legendary Castelul Bran, often associated with the Dracula myth. Perched dramatically on a rocky cliff, Bran Castle offers fascinating medieval architecture and captivating stories.

In the afternoon, arrive in Brașov, one of Transylvania’s most charming cities. During a guided walking tour, explore Council Square, the Black Church (exterior visit), and Rope Street (one of Europe’s narrowest streets).

Enjoy dinner and free time in Brașov’s lively Old Town before overnight accommodation.

Day 2: Brașov → Sighișoara → Biertan → Sibiu (Overnight in Sibiu)

After breakfast, head to Sighișoara, one of the best-preserved medieval citadels in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking along its cobbled streets feels like stepping back in time. Highlights include the Clock Tower, the Birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, and the covered Scholars’ Stairs.

Continue to the fortified Biserica Fortificată din Biertan, a UNESCO-listed masterpiece of Saxon defensive architecture. Surrounded by rolling Transylvanian hills, this impressive church complex tells the story of centuries of multicultural heritage.

In the afternoon, arrive in elegant Sibiu, former European Capital of Culture. A guided city tour reveals the Large Square & Small Square, the Bridge of Lies, the Evangelical Cathedral, and the charming “houses with eyes.” Enjoy a relaxed evening in Sibiu’s romantic Old Town.

Day 3: Sibiu → Transfăgărășan Highway → Bucharest

Experience one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the world: the Transfăgărășan. Your first stop is the peaceful ruins of Mănăstirea Cârța, a former Cistercian monastery with striking Gothic architecture.

Then, ascend the Transfăgărășan, driving through dramatic alpine landscapes, glacial valleys, and breathtaking viewpoints. With some luck, observe wild brown bears in their natural habitat (from a safe distance).

Stops include the glacial Lacul Bâlea, the scenic Cascada Capra, and the impressive Barajul Vidraru. After crossing the mountains, descend toward Wallachia and return to Bucharest in the evening, filled with unforgettable memories.
