Description

Explore Bucharest’s Old Town on a guided walking tour. Learn about the city’s history, admire its architecture, and see the oldest church in Bucharest.
Join a small-group (max 12) walking tour that links Bucharest’s Old Town with elegant Calea Victoriei. Your licensed guide sets the scene in Piața Sf. Anton and explains how trade, religion and royal ambition shaped the city from medieval times to the 20th century.

We begin at Manuc’s Inn (meeting point: main gate in Piața Sf. Anton), then step by Curtea Veche and the Saint Anton Church area. Continue along Hanul Gabroveni and Lipscani Street, where merchants once sold goods from across Europe. We make a quick stop at the light-filled Cărturești Carusel bookshop (time permitting), then view the façades of the National Bank of Romania on nearby Smârdan Street. In the quiet courtyard of Stavropoleos Monastery, notice the Brâncovenesc stonework and wood carving.

Cross to Caru’ cu Bere and the National Museum of Romanian History (exterior), then photograph the dome and lions of the CEC Palace. Slip beneath the glass roof of Macca-Villacrosse Passage and learn why Bucharest was nicknamed “Little Paris.”

Exit onto Calea Victoriei for a sequence of landmarks: Grand Hotel du Boulevard, the Palace of the National Military Circle, and Casa Capșa. Pass Hotel Capitol and the Odeon Theatre, then the interwar Telephone Palace and Pasajul Victoria. Near Crețulescu Church your guide outlines the events around Revolution Square. The walk ends by the Romanian Athenaeum—a convenient spot for photos and onward tips.

Start: Manuc’s Inn, main gate, Piața Sf. Anton (Old Town).
End: Romanian Athenaeum, Calea Victoriei area.
Duration & pace: about 2.5 hours, ~3 km, easy pace with short stops.
Notes: This is an outdoor tour focused on façades. Church or shop interiors are brief and may vary. Uneven cobbles in places; tour runs rain or shine. Please arrive 10 minutes early and wear comfortable shoes.
