Description

This shared tour explores a different side of Communist Bucharest. Instead of focusing only on major political sites, you’ll discover how ordinary people actually lived during the communist era.
Discover Bucharest under communism with a group tour that goes beyond the usual stories while staying close to the city center. Led by a local guide, you’ll explore a mix of well-known and lesser-seen spots to understand how the system shaped everyday life.

Along the route, you’ll see communist apartment blocks, learn about public transport and urban planning, and visit a relocated church moved to make space for the Palace of Parliament. You’ll also explore topics like the education system, the justice system, and the role of the Securitate, including what happened to political prisoners.

You’ll also stop in front of a famous theatre to discuss culture and film during the communist period, and how art was influenced by censorship and propaganda. The tour also covers the destruction of the Uranus neighborhood to make way for the Palace of Parliament and the massive civic center project.

This is more than a history lesson—it’s a human story. You’ll hear personal insights, lesser-known facts, and powerful narratives that help you imagine what life was like behind the Iron Curtain.
