Description
Discover Quanzhou’s living heritage - Silk Road origins, grand overseas mansions, vibrant fishing village culture, a world-class maritime museum, and ancient temples in the historic old town.
Wulin Overseas Chinese Village: Step into Wulin, a unique village built by returning Chinese migrants in the early 20th century. Known for its “fanzi lou” mansions, this area showcases a fascinating blend of Minnan red-brick architecture, Southeast Asian details, and European influences. You’ll stroll through quiet alleys, visit historic homes like Dao Nan Lou and Nanxun Lou, and hear stories of migration, wealth, and heritage. Artistic studios and cultural exhibits are tucked inside some of the villas.
Xunpu Fishing Village: A short ride brings you to Xunpu, a living museum of female fisherfolk traditions. Women here still wear vivid floral headscarves, and the community retains its stone houses and age-old customs. Your guide will share insights into their matriarchal culture, sea life, and colorful daily routines. A unique stop for cultural photos and meaningful local encounters.
Quanzhou Maritime Museum: Discover the only museum in the world fully dedicated to ancient maritime history. Located by a scenic lake, the Quanzhou Maritime Museum presents maps, sunken ship relics, model ports, and religious artifacts that tell the story of Quanzhou’s rise as a global trade hub in the Song-Yuan dynasties. Your guide will highlight rare exhibits from Islamic, Hindu, and Christian traders who once docked here.
Quanzhou Old Town Walk: Explore the heart of Quanzhou’s historical cityscape on foot: a) Kaiyuan Temple: A massive Buddhist complex dating back to the Tang dynasty, with twin stone pagodas, banyan trees, and intricate woodwork; b) West Street: Wander down a lively lane lined with red-brick houses, small temples, traditional shops, and street snacks; c) Quanzhou Bell Tower: A local landmark marking the center of the ancient city, ideal for final photos and souvenirs.
