Description

Walk and guided tour of the Carris Mines in the Serra do Gerês, through the Homem River Valley, in the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
The walk starts at the border of Portela do Homem and runs through the Homem River Valley, following an old mining road through a unique area in the Peneda-Gerês National Park.

The walk will continue through the valley, passing waterfalls and narrow valleys until reaching a flat area before the final climb. In the Carris mining complex, you will have the opportunity to glimpse the highest parts of the mountain, the old ruins from the Second World War, and learn about the region's mining history in detail.

The return trip can be made along the same route, for a total of 22 km.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Hiking boots or hiking shoes should be worn. The use of walking sticks is recommended. Clothing should be appropriate for the time of year (in summer the weather is hot, but in winter it is very cold and there may be snow).
The meeting point is the parking lot at the Portela do Homem border (Location: 41°48’30.8″N 8°07’51.9″W).
