Description

From the southern port of Tenerife - Los Cristianos, we will cross by the luxurious ferry Fred Olsen to the port of San Sebastian in La Gomera. The island's capital, San Sebastian, is the Christopher Columbus landing port before its great expeditions into the unknown. In the town there is a well with water, which was dedicated to America, an old house in which a sailor and a modest museum showing the history of his travels were staying. After visiting San Sebastian, we will start the island tour with stops at the viewpoints showing its extraordinary charms. The rugged gorges commonly called "barrancos", built up with a lot of terraced plots, tiny villages situated at the foot of mountains and hills are some of the most interesting views and places where the inhabitants of the island live to this day. We will visit the world's oldest laurel-heather forest, where there are over 400 species of exotic plants and shrubs. Today, it is an area of the National Park inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Old laurel trees and massive heaths reaching several meters, often shrouded in fog, give a characteristic atmosphere to this place. An additional point of the program will be a stop at the viewpoint Mirador de Abrante - a building that took part in the competition for the construction of the year of Spain in 2015. In the afternoon we will have lunch in the beautifully located restaurant "Las Rosas", combined with a demonstration of the whistle language, which was once used by "Guanches" - the indigenous inhabitants of the Canary Islands. This form and ability to use sound has survived to this day as one of the elements of the tradition of their ancestors. On the route, we will stop in a banana garden, where we will see how the inhabitants grow in addition to bananas, mango, papaya and avocado. After visiting the center of the island, we go back to the capital, where we have free time to walk along the streets of San Sebastian.
