Description

The scenery of Northern Lanzarote will take your breath away! In the geographical center of the island, we will find Monumento al Campesino - The Farmer’s Monument, made by the famoust artist of Lanzarote - César Manrique to honor the hard working farmers. Next we'll reach the beautiful oasis LagOmar, former residence of actor Omar Sharif. We'll continue through the ancient capital of the island, Teguise, and then Los Valles, the valleys with its typical farming. At the next stop we see The Valley of the Thousand Palms, the village of Haría, the Corona Volcano and the picturesque villages on the north-eastern coast. We will cross the island and enjoy the breathtaking view of the La Graciosa and other small islands. At the foot of the Corona Volcano we'll visit an Aloe Vera plantation. Later on we'll visit another highlight, Jameos del Agua - César Manrique made it possible for us to take a walk in parts of this seven kilometers long lava tunnel. Finally we can visit The César Manrique Foundation where Cesar integrated five lava bubbles into his house. Lanzarote is spectacular wherever you look. Its inhabitants have made this island, with its incredible craters and lava seas, what it's today - a reference of environmental awareness and urban adaptation to its surroundings. On this excursion, besides seeing the north of the island with its cliffs and small villages surrounded by palm trees, we will see how César Manrique has been able to interpret and make out of simple things marvelous, spectacular piece of art. In the very heart of Lanzarote we will pay a visit to the Monument to the Farmer, Manrique's work and tribute to the work of Lanzarote's rural community. Their efforts materialize in La Geria - one of the most unique landscapes in the world - in obtaining agricultural products from a land so dry as that of this island. It contains an extraordinary collection of tools used by the farmers during the centuries. On our next stop we will pay a visit to "LagOmar", former house of Omar Sharif, one of the most impressive, original and charming houses of Lanzarote. It was in this house where the actor Omar Sharif fell in love with this hidden place in which architecture and nature dwell in total harmony. You will feel like living the fairy tale of "The Thousand and One Nights", in the village of Nazareth. On the way to the island's summits, we pass by the village of Teguise and the valleys with their original crops. The beautiful views of the road force us to stop near the highest point of the island, to view the Valley of the Thousand Palm Trees, the village of Haría, the Volcano Corona, the northeast coast and its towns, in the Risco (cliff) de Famara we discover the Chinijo Archipelago. At this point of the excursion our appetite will whet and we stop to eat. We will have a lunch close to the beautiful village of Haría, known for its palm grove, valley which village is considered "Valley of the Thousand Palm Trees." On the slopes of the imposing volcano we pay a visit to an Aloe plantation. Then we visit the spectacular volcanic cave of the "Jameos del Agua", transformed by the artist César Manrique, who intends to show the visitor an area to observe nature hardly intervened by man. The "Jameos del Agua" is a huge hole that occurs as a result of the sinking of the roof of a volcanic tube and located inside the volcanic tunnel produced by the eruption of the Crown Volcano. The tunnel has a known length of 6 km, of which at least 1,5 km run under the sea surface. The Jameos del Agua are located in the section of this tunnel closest to the coast. On your way back, we can visit the beautiful and surprising "César Manrique Foundation" (*optional), home and workshop of the brilliant artist and built in 5 natural lava bubbles. It is particularly impressive for its architecture. Much of this housing, so out of the ordinary, is integrated into one of the islands' longest lava rivers. Natural lava walls and their curious forms were his residence for two decades and inspiration for his creations that made Manrique a unique artist.
