Today, you'll venture into the heart of Rioja Alavesa. From Santo Domingo, the route will first take you to San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where you'll visit the Teodoro Ruiz Monge winery. Then it's on to Elciego, where the modern Bodega Marqués de Riscal, designed by architect Frank Gehry, stands out like a sculpture in the middle of a sea of vineyards. After the visit and tasting, you'll have the well-deserved reward of a meal in the walled town of Laguardia. You'll feel like you've traveled back in time to this medieval village that's a true gem.
Day 3: Santo Domingo de la Calzada - Florentino Martínez Wineries
The birthplace of Castilian and signature wine
This day is dedicated to the history and hidden treasures of La Rioja. From Santo Domingo, you'll pedal to Cordovín to visit Bodegas Florentino Martínez, a family winery that will show you the passion for signature wines. Then, the route will take you to San Millán de la Cogolla, where the Monasteries of Suso and Yuso are located. This place, declared a World Heritage Site, will amaze you when you learn that the first words in Spanish were written here.
Day 4: Santo Domingo de la Calzada – Sajazarra
Castles, boutique wineries, and medieval charm
Today's route is a real treat. From Santo Domingo, you'll head to Sajazarra, a town that will take your breath away with its impressive 15th-century castle. In this magical setting, you'll visit Bodega Alegre Valgañón, a family winery that makes unique wines from old vines. An intimate experience that will connect you directly with the earth.
Day 5: Santo Domingo de la Calzada - Ezcaray and its Villages
From the plains to the mountains
Your last stage is one of the most beautiful. You'll leave the vineyard landscape behind to dive into the charm of the small mountain villages around Ezcaray. The route will take you through villages like Ojacastro and Zorraquín, where you'll feel the tradition and authenticity of rural La Rioja. The end of the route is Ezcaray, a tourist town with popular architecture that will invite you to relax and celebrate the end of your epic journey.
