Description

Las Margaritas banana farm is based on extensive volcanic wasteland that since  3 or 4 million years ago covered the coastal platform of Las Galletas. In this large agricultural area of 825 hectars is located the largest banana plantations in greenhouse of Tenerife,  which produces a volume of more than 26 thousand tons anually.   The Las Margaritas banana farm began the cultivation of bananas in 1977, the union and several family members of Adolfo Guerra González entrepreneurship and Margarita Hernández Pérez named the estate. Both came from a long family generation of farmers in Santa Cruz de La Palma and San Andrés y Sauces.   On this farm are produced few types of the Canarian banana - mainly The Great Dwarf and The Thick Palm also called The Small Dwarf. The other type - The Dwarf Cavendish variety can reach an average of 45-50 kg per bunch, and sometimes can exceed even the 70 kg. The farm is approximately 7 hectares big with 98% of bananas and 2% of fruit trees such as mango, papaya and avocado.
