Past Ratnapura, the road climbs into Belihuloya, where the lowland heat drops away and the air turns noticeably cooler. The first proper stop is Diyaluma Falls, a 220-meter single-drop waterfall just off the main road. From the base, get the full drop in view, and if your group is up for a 30–40 minute scramble, there are natural infinity pools at the top (only attempt this with a local guide — the rock gets slick).

Back on the road, pass Ravana Ella Falls on the approach into Ella town, then arrive at the Nine Arch Bridge, a British colonial-era railway viaduct built without steel, entirely from stone, brick, and cement. There's genuine time built in here, not a five-minute photo stop, including the option to time your visit around the blue train crossing (your driver will know the rough schedule that day). one of the area’s most recognizable natural landmarks. Stop to admire the waterfall, take photographs, and enjoy the cool hill-country atmosphere.

Continue toward Kithalella Viewpoint, where you can see the surrounding valleys, railway tracks, mountains, and tea-covered slopes. Depending on available time and weather conditions, enjoy views toward Ella Rock, one of the best-known mountain landmarks in the region.

Enjoy lunch at a local hill-country restaurant with valley views, after which there's time for a 45-minute round-trip walk up Little Adam's Peak, a far gentler climb than Ella Rock but with an equally wide view over the surrounding tea estates. Before the drive back down to the coast, pass through working tea plantations where the smell of the leaves changes noticeably from the lowland scent you started the day with.
