Description

Discover Basel's 2000-year history, from Erasmus to medieval charm. Walk the Knights Street and visit landmarks like the Münster Cathedral. Explore a city embracing tradition and modernity.
Basel is a multicultural city, cheerful, innovative and open to the world. It is also known as the Swiss capital of culture. This Rhine Rivershore city has over 2000 years of history, due to its central position between France, Germany and Switzerland. Its wonderful city centre is one of the best preserved in Europe. It was also one of the birthplaces of the Reformation movement in Switzerland, having had consequences that reverberate in this city until this day and influencing Swiss society forever. We will follow the steps of the great humanist and reformer Erasmus of Rotterdam, who published his New Testament in 1516 in Basel and who is buried in the Cathedral.
Follow your guide on a time travel through a city conscious of its traditions but also very open to the modern age – Making Basel truly a special city. We will cover all the details of the famous Tinguely Fountain (Fasnachtsbrunnen), the Swiss neo-gothic Elisabeth Church, and walk along the medieval Knights Street, or Rittergasse, known in Basel as the mother of all streets. We will visit the Münster Cathedral to see its Romanesque and Gothic architecture and pay homage to Erasmus of Rotterdam himself, see the City Hall, the Blue and White Houses, see the impressive structure of the Mittlere Brücke (Middle Bridge) built in 1226, and discover in the Barfüsserkirche, or Church of the “Bare Feet'' from who the city got its name from. Discover with us the oldest university city in Switzerland and make you fall in love with Basel.
