Description

From Jul 27-Aug 5, 2024 TMR will take us across the Alps, in Switzerland and Italy. Meeting Walser culture, challenging ourselves with considerable elevation gains and crossing alpine passes.
Day 1
Macugnaga - Monte Moro

In Macugnaga, we immediately encounter typical Walser houses built of larch wood on stone bases. The ascent to Monte Moro (2985 m) takes place in front of the east wall of Monte Rosa, which rises imposingly with a prominence of over 2600 meters
Day 2
Monte Moro- Saas Fee

We cross into Switzerland in the Saastal valley, the landscape becomes incredibly rugged, descending among debris towards the artificial lake of Mattmark reserves us the spectacle of waterfalls coming from the glacier. After crossing the dam, we will gradually descend towards the village of Saas Fee
Day 3
Saas Fee – Grachen

From the Saas valley to the Mattertal valley through aerial trails, partly equipped, with views on the spectacular peaks of Weissmies, Lagginhorn, Fletschhorn. We will cross larch and Swiss stone pine forests, with an undergrowth of rhododendrons, blueberries, and junipers, breathing deeply
Day 4
Grachen – Europahutte

High-altitude itinerary above the Mattertal Valley, with the peaks of the Weisshorn (4506 m) and the Bishorn (4153 m) towering on the opposite side. Through increasingly rugged landscapes, with rocky terrain and equipped stairs, at the Refuge curious ibexes will welcome us
Day 5
Europahutte- Zermatt

We start immediately with one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe (490 meters), then the path winds through alpine pastures. The valley opens up to Zermatt; views on the peaks of Monte Rosa, and the majestic Matterhorn
Day 6
Zermatt- Teodulo Refuge

The ascent through meadows in the presence of the majestic Matterhorn reveals the Swiss normal route. We find ourselves on the glacier, where, following a marked route along the lifts, we reach the Teodulo Hut (3317m), back to Italy
Day 7
Teodulo Refuge– Resi

On the ancient paths that led the Walser people to settle in Ayas and Gressoney. We ascend towards the Cime Bianche station to reach Val d'Ayas, with a spectacular view of Gran Lago and the glaciers
Day 8
Resi- Stafall –Gabiet

We cross the pastures and continue to Lake Ciarcierio at Passo del Rothorn (2687m). We traverse rocky terrain before descending to the Salero lakes. From Lake Gabiet, we enjoy a wide view of the main peaks of Monte Rosa: Breithorn, Castore, Polluce, and Lyskamm
Day 9
Rifugio Gabiet – Rifugio Pastore

We ascend to Col d'Olen (2881m), then descend to Alagna througg the Otro valley, encountering Walser houses and hamlets. Pastore Refuge is located in a privileged position to observe all the peaks of Monte Rosa
Day 10
Rifugio Pastore- Macugnaga

Last stage, the desire to arrive will be mixed with incredible melancholy. We face the long mule track, rebuilt by the Alpini in 1930, to Passo del Turlo (2738m). Here, we bid farewell to Monte Rosa to undertake the final long descent to Macugnaga.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Payment before July 15th is required to make the reservations.

Difficulty: Overall, it is considered high; there will be stages with hiking trails (E), characterized by steep slopes and length, some trails marked by exposed sections, suitable for experienced hikers (EE); thus, excellent endurance and physical and mental preparation are generally required to walk every day consecutively, tackling long stages with high elevation gain for most of the route.

Equipment: Technical clothing is recommended; necessary items include: high trekking boots, trekking poles, shorts and t-shirt, sweater or fleece, lightweight windproof jacket, sunglasses, hat, backpack (min 35 liters), water bottles (for a minimum of two liters), sunscreen. In the hut: sleeping bag or sleeping sheet, towel, personal hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrush, liquid soap, etc.). Long pants, waterproof pants cover, and shell are recommended in case of adverse weather conditions.

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.


Cancellations

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
