Description

Guided tour of the exhibition of the graphic collection on the volcano - a phenomenon between fascination and deterrence
Are you also fascinated by volcanoes? They're geological formations that make the land fertile, but they can also destroy it. For ten years, Philip Ursprung, ETH professor of art and architectural history, and his team have been traveling to volcanoes and researching their influence on landscape, economy, and culture. The exhibition of the graphic collection ties in with these trips. The curatorial team (Linda Schädler, Berit Seidel, and Philip Ursprung) selected works from the collection and examined how volcanoes were depicted in the past and how they are depicted today. What's the significance of the volcano figure? What relationships between volcanology, geology, and art still exist today? Go on a search for clues with the co-curator and head of the ETH Zurich Graphic Collection, Linda Schädler.
